Chinese pianist Li Yundi debuts in Lithuania

Chinese pianist Li Yundi performed in the National Philharmonic Hall of Lithuania on Thursday, marking his debut in the Baltic country.

His performance consisted of masterpieces of Chopin, Schumann, Beethoven, and the well-known Chinese music Colourful Clouds Chasing the Moon.

"Lithuanian audiences and especially young pianists were following Yundi Li's artistic career since he won prestigious Chopin competition as the youngest ever and first Chinese pianist, so, Lithuanian music fans are very eager to listen to Yundi Li live for the very first time in Lithuania," Ruta Pruseviciene, General Director of the National Philharmonic Society of Lithuania, told Xinhua.

"I very much hope that Yundi Li will come back to Vilnius to play with Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra," she added.

Li, told Xinhua in an interview "I enjoyed the Europe tour in which I brought masterpieces of Chopin, Schumann and Beethoven to the audiences."

"Winning Chopin International Piano Competition was the start of my music career, and I started sharing music with people everywhere after that," he said.

"The award has continuously encouraged me to forge ahead on my way of music and art," Li continued.

Dubbed the piano prince, the then 18-year-old Li was the youngest winner of Chopin International Piano Competition.

Li kicked off a two-month Europe tour in February, covering more than 20 European cities, including the three Baltics' capitals.
