Vietnam's imports of cell phones, accessories from China up 22.5 pct in Q1

Vietnam's import revenue of cell phones, accessories from China rose 22.5 percent year-on-year to hit 1.4 billion US dollars, said General Department of Vietnam Customs on Friday.

Accounting for 68.2 percent of Vietnam's total import revenue of the commodity, China was the largest supplier of cell phones and accessories to Vietnam during January-March period, said the department.

In 2013, Vietnam imports most cell phones and accessories from China with a total value of 5.69 billion US dollars, up 66.34 percent year-on-year, according to Vietnam Customs.

During the first three months of 2014, the second largest source for Vietnam to import cell phones was South Korea, with revenue of 578 million US dollars, up 10.1 percent year-on-year, accounting for 28 percent of Vietnam's total import revenue.

Vietnam bought cell phones and accessories from eight markets during the period, including China, China's Taiwan, China's Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Britain, Sweden, and the United States.

During the period, the country spent some 2.06 billion dollars to buy cell phones and accessories, up 21.36 percent year-on-year, according to Vietnam Customs.
