Following the removal of popular US sitcom The Big Bang Theory from video sites over the weekend, a Beijing-based film translation company announced it is working on a censored version for broadcast on China Central Television.

While the company promises to preserve the show's humorous content, some segments will be deleted, the Beijing News reported Monday.

The sitcom, popular among young Chinese, will be made available in an "active, healthy and clean way," translator group CBM announced on its official website on April 11.

The CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory centers around the misadventures of four geeky scientist friends.

The removal of the show followed an announcement from the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television in March, which promised to step up its monitoring of online audio and video content.

News of the "clean" version received a cool reception among fans, with many Net users calling for a rating system instead of mere censorship.
