Chinese Premier Li Keqiang visits Africa

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang left Beijing on May 4, his trip to Africa will take him to Ethiopia, Nigeria, Angola and Kenya. This is the first time Li will have set foot on the continent as Premier, and also his first foreign visit this year. Ahead of the trip, Li said in an interview with African press that relations between China and Africa have entered a "golden period." Both sides have benefited from their cooperation. His entourage includes his wife Cheng Hong.

Highlights:
Nearly 60 deals will be signed, covering cooperation in areas such as trade, health, culture, agriculture and personnel training.

This is the first time for the premier to visit Africa since taking office in 2013. His entourage includes his wife Cheng Hong.


Cheng Hong profile:
China's official news outlet Xinhua News Agency has released the curriculum vitae of Premier Li Keqiang's wife Cheng Hong, who is accompanying Li on his Africa tour.

Cheng Hong is a scholar, professor with the Capital University of Economics and Business and also a member of the university's academic board. She was born in 1957 at Zhengzhou, capital city of Henan Province. Graduated from PLA University of Foreign Language in 1982, Cheng Hong received her Ph.D later from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. She also studied English at Peking University, where she met her husband, premier Li Keqiang. The couple has a daughter who also graduated from Peking University and now studies in the United States.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang is expected to hold talks with Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, meet President Mulatu Teshome, and hold a seminar with Chinese and African businessmen.

African Union (AU): May 5th 

Li will visit the headquarters of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa and deliver a speech there on cooperation between China and the promising continent. 

This will be the first visit by the Chinese Premier to the AU Headquarters.

Nigeria: May 6th to 8th  

Li will hold talk with President José Eduardo dos Santos and attend the Plenary Session of the 24th World Economic Forum on Africa in Abuja, capital of Nigeria on May 8. 

Here, Li will speak on strengthening Sino-African cooperation, promoting inclusive growth in Africa, and the realization of Sino-African advancement.

Premier Li is the first Chinese leader to attend this Regional Conference.
