Violence in Vung Ang industrial park in Vietnam's central Ha Tinh province left one people dead and 149 others injured, Vice Chairman of Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee Dang Quoc Khanh said on Thursday.

Khanh made the statement in an interview with Vietnam's state- run television VTV.

Khanh blamed the conflict between Vietnamese and Chinese workers for the violence.

The clashes between the two sides caused casualties with three temporary houses for workers set on fire, said Khanh.

"In the process of building blast furnace in Formosa steel factory in Ha Tinh, conflict happened in advance between these two groups. On Wednesday, the conflict turned into fighting as several people wanted to worsen the incident," said the official, adding that this is conflict between two groups of workers, and no Vietnamese local people took part in the violence.

Till Wednesday evening, the province was able to control the situation, dispersing workers, bringing the injured to hospitals and putting out the fire, the official said.

"Ha Tinh province is determined to bring those who provoked violence to justice. A total of 76 people were prosecuted and arrested," the official said.

However, the official did not mention the bloody attack launched by Vietnamese rioters who broke into the Chinese companies' compound on Wednesday. And he did not clarify the identity of the dead.

Earlier, sources told Xinhua that a Chinese national was killed before reaching hospital in Ha Tinh Province, some 300 km south of Hanoi, where a bloody mob attack against Chinese nationals and companies occurred.

"As we counted, the hospital has received 75 Chinese nationals, while the hospital says 101 are hospitalized," said a high-ranking official with China 19th Metallurgical Corporation (MCC19) which was the worst hit among the Chinese companies there on Wednesday. "There are dozens of Chinese sent to another provincial hospital."

The official requesting anonymity for fear of retaliation is also hospitalized, "I found the Chinese dead before reaching hospital, but his identity is still unknown."

He said, the MCC19 office and dormitory buildings were burned down on Wednesday.

"Now, the security forces are guarding the hospital, so it is fairly safe now," he told Xinhua, "The owner of the house we rent, and some local Vietnamese people and organizations have come to the hospital to console the wounded Chinese with some fruits, etc. "

Moreover, around eight Chinese remained unaccounted for on Thursday after violent rioters attacked Chinese companies in Vietnam's central Ha Tinh Province, sources said.

"The protests were held throughout Wednesday. The rioters attacked four Chinese companies constructing an iron and steel complex invested by China's Taiwan," a Chinese manager in Ha Tinh told Xinhua.

"So far, around eight staff lost contact with us and at least 55 workers were wounded," an official with MCC19 said Thursday afternoon.
