A woman who survived five days on almost no food or water after her SUV plunged 100 meters off a mountain road is now in stable condition in Baoding, Hebei Province. Her husband did not survive the ordeal.

Hikers spotted the 55-year-old surnamed Zheng at the bottom of a ravine near Nose Mountain as she called out for help on May 17.

Firefighters and medics soon arrived and treated Zheng for chest injuries and broken ribs from the impact that threw the couple from their black Buick SUV.

There she waited five days, surviving only on a found half-bottle of water and grapes, Zheng told rescuers.

Her husband's body was found near the wreckage. Zheng told rescuers he had remained conscious for a time after the accident.

According to the report, she swerved off the cliff while attempting to avoid another vehicle. A group of several trees broke their fall 100 meters down, throwing the couple from the car.

The injured Zheng was able to crawl back for her mobile phone but was unable to get a signal.

A native of Shandong Province, Zheng is a shareholder of a mine in Baoding's Laiyuan county.
