The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) announced the termination of the post of an NPC deputy from South China's Guangdong Province at its bi-monthly session that closed on October 25, 2013.

In September, the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress approved the resignation of Li Xinghua, former head of the Guangdong provincial department of science and technology, from his post as NPC deputy.

The announcement by the NPC Standing Committee finalized the termination.

Li has been under investigation for serious discipline violations since July.

A statement from the NPC Standing Committee also stated that one NPC deputy died of illness and another was killed in a traffic accident, reducing the total number of NPC deputies to 2,989.

Guo Yili, NPC deputy and commander of armed police in Tibet, died of a heart attack in July.

Yang Zhengping, NPC deputy and chief of a party branch of a village in northwest China's Gansu Province, was killed in a traffic accident, but details of his death are not available at this time.
