"China has no standard yet for the amount of pesticide allowed in crayfish."

Fishing and agricultural officials in Chongming county have identified four cases of people using pesticide to catch crayfish in April and May. The perpetrators dumped the chemical fenvalerate into streams to poison the crayfish for easy collection. During an interview with the Metro Express, the person in charge of the Shanghai Oriental International Fisheries Market said crayfish inspections focus on heavy metals, antibiotics and hormones, but not pesticides. An expert at the inspection center of the aquatic market on Tongchuan Road said that it takes time to create a standard to regulate the amount of pesticide safe for people to consume.
