The book launch for China's Foreign Affairs 2014 was held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province on July 10.

The 422-page retrospect, compiled by the Department of Policy Planning of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reviews China's diplomatic development in 2013 and elaborates on China's latest insights into the international arena.

Chen Song, Counselor from Department of Policy Planning, was on hand to deliver a brief introduction about the book and field questions from journalists.

Published in China and abroad since 1987, annual installments of the China's Foreign Affairs series are seen as authoritative sources for describing China's diplomatic concepts, policies and practices.

In this year's volume, much focus is given to China's creative approach in developing diplomatic relations under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, particularly the ideals laid out in the "Chinese dream" campaign.

"Chinese dream is featured to promote peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit, which is closely connected with the dreams of people in other countries," as quoted from the book.

As China further develops its peaceful development strategy, the book also emphasizes China's policy of safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests and never sacrificing its core benefits.

The book also touches upon the US' National Security Agency PRISM project, while also outlining China's high priority on Internet security and calling for the establishment of an international Internet management system.

Chen explained the book launch was held in Shaanxi Province to help residents better understand the country's diplomatic policies and to locally promote foreign exchange.

Shaanxi is the beginning of both the ancient Silk Road and the newly-established "Silk Road Economic Belt."
