Uganda's top junior badminton player Daniel Mihigo has intensified preparations ahead of the 2nd Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China next month.

"I have stepped up my training with coach Ronald Kaserenge. I am running a lot, doing gym work and also playing on the court," Mihigo told Xinhua on Tuesday at Kampala Club where he is training.

Uganda will send six athletes to the Games which will take place Aug. 18-28.

"I am working very hard because I'm hungry to win a medal for my country. I know the event will not be that simple especially since there are good badminton players from China and Indonesia who will be taking part," Mihigo said.

The 17-year-old explained that the two weeks training in India last month, the Africa Youth Championship in Botswana and the Kenya International Open Championship all helped him get some exposure ahead of the Youth Olympics.
