Around ten citizens protested against sex-related products at the International Adult Exhibition in Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning Province, by throwing eggs and bottles on Friday morning.

The protesters, including three middle-aged women and several  men, threw eggs and bottles of water on the exhibition stage when a Japanese adult video actress came out at around 10:30 am on Friday.

They kept shouting that "we firmly resist the spreading of pornographic products and will reveal the officials who support this adult exhibition," news website china.com reported.

They also shouted "Japanese actress get out of China," the website said.

Several protesters who engaged in violence were detained, according to the exhibition host, Dalian-based Sanxuan Media Company.

Dalian police could not be reached to confirm the number of people detained as of press time on Sunday.

Over 1,000 people attended the event.

A video, which lasts more than four minutes recording the protest, has been spreading online.

A survey by Sina Weibo showed that 48.3 percent among the 2,424 polled supported the protest and declared that the vulgar exhibitions should be banned, while 31.5 percent said that the protesters need to communicate with the host rather than throwing eggs. Another 20.1 percent said that the protesters should be punished for their uncivilized behavior.

This is not the first time that an adult exhibition has been subject to an attack from protest groups in China.

There have also been protests at similar exhibitions related to sex in other cities, an employee of the organizer, surnamed Li, told the Global Times on Sunday.

"They are not local citizens and stayed in hotels near the train station. Wherever there was an adult exhibition, the group of people would come to protest," said Li.

In the fifth Xi'an Reproductive Health Products Expo and Xi'an Sexual Culture art festival on May 30, two women stood on the stage of the lingerie show and appealed "to not let the sex products harm our family and ruin our children."

They delivered a speech to claim that "some anti-China forces are attempting to disintegrate China under the cover of sex freedom and sexual liberation," reported guanchazhe.com on June 28.

In the China North Adult Toys and Reproductive Health Exhibition in Tianjin on July 11, more than ten women wore uniformed T-shirts and held banners to block the street to the exhibition and appealed for people to not go to the sex exhibition.

They even printed English slogans on the banners. Their resistance resulted in the cancellation of the festival and some on-site activities, according to news portal china.com.
