An ex-con was detained for filing a false police report in an attempt to get sent back to jail and see a friend still in detention, media reported Wednesday.

Police in Xin'an, Henan Province booked the man surnamed Hou on August 16 after he reported a fight in the city's Xincheng district.

However, cops arrived at the scene to find nothing but a heavily-intoxicated Hou holding two beer bottles and staggering toward their vehicle.

Hou threw one of the bottles at the police car, which smashed the windshield, before falling to the ground.

Officers restrained the suspect as he attempted to throw another bottle.

Hou was detained on charges of obstruction of public service for filing a false report.

Police said Hou explained he felt lonely ever since being released from jail late last year.

"I want to reunite with my friend and enjoy the peace of jail," Hou told police.

Hou served two and a half years for a robbery charge in 2008, followed by 17 months in prison for robbery with intent to injure in 2012. He was released in November 2013.
