Jeffrey Shaw and Hu Jieming Twofold Solo Exhibition
Jeffrey Shaw and Hu Jieming twofold solo exhibition focuses on these two artists who have both developed individual approaches to new media art, and contributed each in their own way to the practice and context of this new art form as we experience it today. Jeffrey Shaw is a leading figure in new media art and has been active since its emergence from the performance, expanded cinema, and installation paradigms of the 1960s, to its present day technology-informed and virtualized forms. Set out as a twofold solo exhibition, the Chronus Art Center simultaneously presents a new art piece by Hu Jieming: Tai Chi with Prelude. This has been created not only as a response to the influence of Hu's old master, but also to Hu's own artistic achievements over the past years. Constantly concerned with subjects such as time, human history, and cultural memory, Hu intended to illuminate the boundaries between the "passing-by" and "going-on" and by doing so he set viewers free from the chronological way of seeing historical events, onto a more accidental reconstruction.

Splendputrid - Fu Yu Solo Exhibition
Curator Jiang Wei has written various articles on photographer Fu Yu, and has said that the first sight of Fu's artwork may give a similar sensation resembling that expressed in the poem Serenity in a Spring Day by Huang Jingren: "I am embraced by the extreme splendor, however I feel truly depressed." Although seemingly ordinary, the works in Fu's series Splendputrid reflect his talent and creativity as well as his artistic representation of the world. Fu believes that the basic power of photography will always lie in its ability to reach people on a deeper level.

The Past - Mehmet Ali Uysal Solo Exhibition
Mehmet Ali Uysal will present two new series of sculptural and installation works, which explore the concept of value in art as a cultural production and commodity. At the core of his artistic practice is a questioning of contemporary art, its institutions and the art market. Growing up in Turkey, Uysal's first visits to European museums as a young adult left an indelible mark on him. The artist recounts how his encounters with the institutions and modes of display in the West left him both exhilarated and frustrated. The cultural achievements of the past as viewed from a Western perspective were unfolding before his eyes, but at the same time there was a distinct feeling that history was being revisited as a spectacle, highlighting for him the relationship between art and commodification. His response is to challenge how art is valued and experienced in space.
