Zhang Yaqin, the vice president and chairman of Beijing-based Microsoft Asia-Pacific Research and Development Group, is leaving the software company to join Chinese search engine giant Baidu Inc, Hong Kong-based newspaper South China Morning Post reported on Monday.

A source close to Baidu said Zhang will be appointed as the president for new business as an integral part of the company's senior management.

He will report directly to Robin Li Yanhong, the co-founder, chairman and CEO of Baidu, the report said.

A Baidu insider confirmed to the Global Times on Monday that Zhang is joining in the company.
