Guinean President Alpha Conde on Tuesday urged the media in the country to get involved in the fight against Ebola virus that has been affecting the country during the last seven months.
Speaking to both local and foreign media practitioners in Conakry, Conde said the war against Ebola required the mobilization of everyone in the country, including the media.
He appealed to the media to give positive information and sensitize the Guinean population about the disease to end negative stereotypes from some communities, especially in the south of the country.
"We must reinforce preventive measures because there are people who do not believe this is a disease," the president said, noting that "everyone should consider this battle as a war and not a civil war in the country."
He said all Guineans, irrespective of their political affiliations and regions, should join the war against the disease which is now considered as a common enemy.
This is why, he said, Guinea should not only fight against the disease in the country, but also help other infected neighboring countries to fight against it.
The national coordinator for the fight against the outbreak in Guinea Sakoba Keita said 555 people have so far died from the disease which has infected about 862 people in Guinea.
