Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders said on Monday that Belgium would not be sending troops to Iraq in a possible incursion against the Islamic State (IS) militants.

He made the comments following a high-level meeting in Paris aimed at deciding what measures to take against IS.

Participants at the Paris conference on Iraq pledged on Monday to tackle the situation by "whatever means necessary," including appropriate military aid.

Reynders said while his country is supporting international efforts, this will not extend to the deployment of ground troops, according to the local newspaper Le Soir.

The minister said that Belgium will provide the international coalition logistical support in the shape of various military aircraft, as it had previously in the case of Libya. He added that some Belgian specialists could also be sent to assist the training of the Iraqi army.

He said that, in the absence of a government being formed, official consent for logistical support would be granted by a parliamentary resolution.
