The delayed release of the iPhone 6 in China has been a boon for scalpers seeking to score on the black and grey markets, media reported Sunday.
Large portions of the crowds gathered outside Apple retail outlets in the US for the iPhone 6 release on September 19 were Chinese buyers looking to profit off the delayed release.
According to the Beijing Youth Daily, Chinese scalpers made up the vast majority of the 2,000 people waiting in line at the Apple store on New York's Fifth Avenue on Friday.
"The Chinese Mainland is off the list this year, while there are bunch of rich guys crying for the new product, which has driven the price of each phone up to $400," said a scalper surnamed Wang, originally from Fujian Province.
A grey-market iPhone6 goes for as much as $2,700 in the Chinese mainland, said the report.
