Israel arrested 16 Palestinians in raids across the West Bank overnight, the Israeli army said on Monday.

The detainees were suspected of involvement in rioting and " terrorist" activity, including throwing stones and fire-bombs at civilians and security forces, an army spokeswoman said.

Five of the suspects were arrested in Burin, a village south of Nablus, and two, allegedly affiliated with Hamas, in Beitunia, a Palestinian town west of Ramallah. The rest were taken in villages near Jenin and Hebron.
