Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao on Sunday called on experts to deepen research on fresh issues related to Hong Kong and Macao and promote the principle of "one country, two systems."

Li made the remarks while meeting with a visiting delegation consisting of Hong Kong and Macao members of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong & Macao Studies.

"[I] hope that experts could make more efforts to research new situations and problems concerning Hong Kong and Macao, have concrete discussions, consolidate consensus, and bring the research of the theory and implementation of 'one country, two systems' to a new level," Li said.

Li urged people from all walks of life in Hong Kong and Macao to thoroughly and accurately understand the central government's guidelines and policies related to the two regions and jointly ensure local stability and prosperity.

Earlier this month, President Xi Jinping stressed "one country, two systems" as a basic state policy and that the central government will unswervingly implement it and the Basic Law, and support the steady development of democracy in Hong Kong.
