Eurozone jobless rate stable at 11.5 pct in August

The eurozone seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 11.5 percent in August 2014, stable compared with July 2014, but down from 12.0 percent in August 2013, the European Union (EU) statistical office Eurostat said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the 28-member EU unemployment rate was 10.1 percent in August, the lowest value since February 2012.

Among the member states, the lowest unemployment rates were recorded in Austria at 4.7 percent and Germany at 4.9 percent, and the highest in Greece at 27.0 percent and Spain at 24.4 percent.

Compared with a year ago, the unemployment rate fell in 22 member states, increased in four and remained stable in two.

For young people aged under 25, unemployment decreased by 602,000 in the EU and by 210,000 in the eurozone, showing a modest sign of improvement.
