The first ever cabinet meeting of the Palestinian unity government will be held on Thursday at Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' house in western Gaza City, a senior official unveiled on Tuesday.
Salim Sakka, Labor minister in the unity government from Gaza, told Xinhua that President Abbas' house in Gaza city will host the first meeting ever of the cabinet, which took oath of office in June.
"Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah and all cabinet members will hold a meeting of the cabinet in the house of President Mahmoud Abbas," said Sakka.
Abbas left the Gaza Strip shortly before Islamic Hamas movement violently seized control of the coastal enclave in the summer of 2007 following internal fighting with his security forces.
Since then, Abbas hasn't come back to Gaza and Hamas seized control of his house. The cabinet ministers plan to hold their meeting at Abbas' house before they head to Cairo to join the international conference to aid Gaza.
Meanwhile, Hamas movement welcomed the decision of Hamdallah and his cabinet ministers to hold a meeting for the unity government at Abbas' house.
Eyad al-Bozom, spokesman of the interior ministry in Gaza, said in an emailed press statement that all the preparations to receive the unity government's premier and the ministers from the West Bank were finalized.
Mufeed al-Hassayna, the minister of housing and public work, told reporters in Gaza that the presidential guards will coordinate with the interior minister to ensure the visit of the cabinet ministers and the meeting.
"The cabinet will discuss all the plans related to launching the process of reconstructing the Gaza Strip, aiding the populations and helping to ease the Israeli siege that has been imposed on Gaza for seven years."
