"Community hospitals should set up a system for households to regularly dispose of their medical waste."

Although the local government has established rules for garbage sorting and recycling, it has not addressed what households should do with their medical waste, such as used syringes, which can carry infectious diseases. As a result, a lot of household medical waste gets tossed in with more mundane trash. A local resident named Shi Lili asked the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a government advisory body, to consider putting local hospitals in charge of the problem because they already have their own rules and procedures for disposing of medical waste. Shi believes hospitals would be able to dispose of medical waste in a more efficient and environmentally friendly manner.
