The 2014 Beijing International Marathon was held on October 19, with over 900 toilets available throughout the route. The increased number of toilets, along with addition of volunteers throughout the course, helped prevent the public urination that occurred during the 2013 race, reported the Beijing Morning Post.

Photos of Chinese and foreign runners urinating against the traditional red walls during last year's race circulated online after the event, and caused an outcry against such uncivilized behavior.

In the last few years, runners urinating on the walls had become a "tradition" of the marathon. Although the urinating problem was prevented this year, littering is still a major problem of the race.
