Senior residents in Beijing above the age of 80 can now get their wills legally sealed for free at 25 notary offices. The project started on October 20, with 244 people making reservations on the first day alone, reported the Beijing Daily.

Notary offices said that it usually requires more than two hours to legally register a person's will. To ensure a will shows the true intentions of the elderly, the process will be videotaped, and staff of the notary office will talk to the testator alone to make sure there's no deception or coercion involved. All applicants are reminded to bring identification, property certificates, in addition to mental health certificates from a 3A hospital. Reservations should be made before October 31.
