Three new members were promoted to fill vacant seats on the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Thursday after the previous committee members were expelled from the Party.

The three new members are Ma Jiantang, Wang Zuo'an and Mao Wanchun, according to a communiqué released after the fourth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee. The Central Committee has 205 members.

Ma is chief of the National Bureau of Statistics, and Wang director of the State Administration of Religious Affairs, while Mao is a member of the standing committee of the CPC Shaanxi provincial committee.

The three officials replaced Li Dongsheng, former vice-minister of public security, Jiang Jiemin, former head of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and Yang Jinshan, former deputy commander of the Chengdu Military Area Command of the People's Liberation Army, who were all expelled from the Party for serious discipline violations.

The plenary session also endorsed prior decisions to revoke the Party membership of Li Dongsheng, Jiang, Yang and three other former officials, Wang Yongchun, Li Chuncheng and Wan Qingliang.

The previous decision to strip them of their memberships was made by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Approved by the central authority, the 18th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC will hold its fourth plenary session on Saturday.
