The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Friday slammed South Korea for formulating a new reunification charter, urging Seoul to follow through on north-south joint declarations that reflect the common aspirations of all Korean people.

The preparatory committee for unification chaired by South Korean President Park Geun-hye is holding frequent seminars and round-table talks to hammer out a new charter for reunification with the DPRK, the DPRK official news agency KCNA's commentary said.

This is an "anti-reunification act" and "an unpardonable challenge to the aspiration and desire of Koreans for reunification", the commentary said.

Pyongyang believes that the Three Charters for National Reunification, which conclude the three principles of national reunification, the ten-point program of the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, are the "most just and reasonable" charters for reunification.

The north-south joint declarations concluded between top leaders of both countries should be implemented in good faith, the commentary said.

The South Korean authorities denied the existing charters and the signed joint declarations by working to design a new reunification charter, in their moves to achieve "unification through absorption" of Pyongyang, the KCNA charged.

The Three Charters for National Reunification were proposed by the DPRK's late leader Kim Il Sung.

In June 2000, then South Korean President Kim Dae-jung met with his DPRK counterpart Kim Jong Il in Pyongyang and they signed the historic June 15th Joint Declaration, in which a consensus was achieved on Korea's reunification.
