Lebanon's Shiite Hezbollah militia on Tuesday freed one of its fighters through a prisoner swap with a rebel group, according to the pan-Arab al-Mayadeen TV.

The freed Hezbollah fighter Emad Ayad was captured by the Syrian rebels during the group's battles alongside the Syrian army in Syria.

According to the prisoner swap deal, the Lebanese guerrilla group, in return, freed two officers of the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

The two FSA officers were captured in Syria by Hezbollah as a bargaining chip to free Ayad.

Freeing Ayad came after "strenuous" negotiations between Hezbollah and the FSA, according to the report.

Hezbollah has been fighting alongside the Syrian army in the recent years in the war-torn Syria. The leaders of the guerrilla group said their battles in Syria would protect Lebanon from the threats of the extremist groups, who are expanding in Syria and Iraq, namely the Islamic State (IS) militants and the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front.

The Syrian crisis has been dragging on since 2011 with no sign of abating despite all of the international efforts to bring the long-running crisis to a close.

The conflict has got more complicated when ultra-radical groups, like the IS and the Nusra Front, joined the fight to serve their own interests in Syria, where over 190,000 people were reportedly killed and millions of others displaced during the grinding war.
