A 21-year-old Palestinian young man was killed early on Tuesday in clashes with Israeli soldiers at Qalandia refugee camp in northern Jerusalem, a Palestinian official said.

Zakareya Fialla, the director of the Palestinian governor office of Jerusalem, told Xinhua that an Israeli army force stormed the refugee camp to detain Palestinian activists, adding that clashes broke out with the residents.

"Israeli soldiers opened fire at several young men and killed Abdulla Odwan, 21," said Fialla, adding that the gunshot hit Odwan in his face and immediately killed him.

In recent weeks, tension in the area of Jerusalem mounted between Israel and the Palestinians, followed by a series of stabbing and cars drive over Israelis in Jerusalem, where several Palestinians were killed.

Tension mounted due to the Israeli measures in the city and the attempts of religious right-wing Jewish groups to get into the area of al-Aqsa Mosque in the old city, besides presenting Muslim prayers from reaching the mosque.

The Palestinians want east Jerusalem, which was occupied by Israel in 1967, the capital of their future Palestinian state, while Israel insists that Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the state of Israel.
