Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Wednesday tried to refute allegations claiming he went to France for medical treatment by receiving two ambassadors in his office in Algiers, APS news agency reported.

The two ambassadors are from Egypt and Iran, said the report.

Local and French media earlier reported that Bouteflika left the country on Tuesday, and was likely to head to French Val-du-Grace military hospital in Paris.

Algerian El Watan newspaper said the air ambulance that carried Bouteflika landed at the airfield of the Bourget Airport in Paris, adding that the president would have been transferred to the Val de Grace hospital.

However, the same newspaper quoted on Wednesday a source at the President's Office as saying that Bouteflika did not go to Paris.

Bouteflika, 77, suffered a transient ischemic attack last year, as he was evacuated to Val-de-Grace military hospital, before being transferred to the Institution des Invalides for convalescence and rehabilitation.

Since then, Bouteflika makes rare public appearances due to his health troubles, while the opposition parties have been calling him to resign and called for early elections.

Bouteflika has come to power in 1999. He was reelected for a fourth term in April 2014.
