A polar bear named Inuka, the first polar bear born in the tropics, at the Singapore Zoo turned 24 years old on Friday.

Zookeepers presented the polar bear with a giant "ice kachang" cake together with his favorite food including salmon, blueberries, watermelon and strawberries topped with whipped cream, said Wildlife Reserves Singapore, operator of the zoo.

Inuka was born in 1990 in his mother's den at the Singapore Zoo. He weighed only 400 grams at birth, local broadcaster Channel NewsAsia said.

The Wildlife Reserves Singapore said Inuka now tips the scale at more than 500 kg, and is well into his senior years. He consumes close to 30 kg of meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables per day.

He currently lives in his Frozen Tundra home, which features climate-controlled resting areas and a large pool.
