Geely's MeiJiaFeng International Trade Company announced that their flagship small car, the Geely Panda, rolled down production lines in Uruguay for the first time on May 14th this year.

Previously, three SKD assembly plants for Geely Panda have been set up in Sri Lanka, Ukraine and Belarus and were officially put into mass production. However, as Geely keeps expanding overseas markets, the more market-access-friendly CKD assembly model has emerged as a new sales growth point. It is a crucial step for Geely to establish a South American CKD plant in Uruguay so as to resell products to its neighbor Brazil, the fourth largest car consumer in the world. The successful launch of the first Geely GC2 serves as a strong support for the upcoming batches of orders.

To date Geely has established multiple semi-knock down (SKD) production facilities in Sri-Lanka, Ukraine and Belarus to satisfy consumer demand in these markets. Geely's Uruguay facility is the first of its kind in the South American market and aims to fulfill burgeoning demand for Geely vehicles in the region. The factory was opened in partnership with local car company Nordex and produces based on completeknock down kits (CKD) which are sent from China and assembled in the South American nation. The addition of Uruguay to Geely's global factory network is an important step for the Hangzhou based company as it will be to officially enter the Mercosur region which includes Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Venezuela, Bolivia and Uruguay and facilities free trade between the South American economic powerhouses.

Senior leaders of Nordex, including General Manager Mr. Federico and Chief Engineer Mr. Andres attended the launch ceremony of the locally made Panda along with their Chinese partners from Geely. Nordex representatives praised Geely for their efforts in developing world class cars and expressed their wishes to deepen cooperation with Geely in the future, with Geely's Uruguayan subsidiary also expressing their wishes to deepen their involvement in South America.
