A 72-year-old woman surnamed Wang was recently compensated more than 64,000 yuan ($10,239) after having a severe allergic reaction to the antibiotic ceftriaxone after her doctor at Peking University People's Hospital did not perform a skin test before proceeding with injecting her with the drug, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

Wang was hospitalized for five months after receiving the injection during which she became deaf and experienced complications with her digestive system.

She originally claimed 150,000 yuan to cover her treatment costs.

Xicheng District Court ruled that the hospital was 80 percent responsible for the woman's allergic reaction.
