Canadian police Tuesday said that they have been searching for a man who had robbed eight banks at gunpoint in eight weeks in three western provinces.

The suspect jumped from one city to another in the three provinces of British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, robbing eight banks between December 19 and January 21 last year. No one was hurt in the robberies, said the police at a news conference in Kelowna in central British Columbia.

"We have a series in the past, but nothing necessarily to this extent, with the number of robberies that have occurred and crossing multiple jurisdictions and multiple provinces," stated police Constable Kris Clark.

In each case the man, dressed in black and wearing dark glasses, walked in and demanded money, then simply walked out, noted Clark.

The police said they are confident that the same suspect is responsible for all the eight robberies and they are asking the public to help identify him.
