Danish National Police on Wednesday said they had arrested 68 people suspected of human trafficking and fraud.

The suspects were arrested Wednesday following a major police operation on the Danish islands of Zealand and Lolland-Falster.

Ten of them are suspected of human trafficking, while the others are suspected of fraud, police said.

Among those arrested are a lawyer and an auditor who are both Danish, while most of the other people come mainly from Romania, said police inspector Karl Erik Agerbo.

"The lawyer will be charged with serious tax fraud. We have not brought charges against the auditor, but neither of them will be charged with human trafficking," Agerbo said.

According to the police, the detainees' identities were used to commit fraud, with tax offices, banks and lenders and general merchants being affected.

The accused will be brought to a local court on Thursday for a preliminary hearing, according to the police.
