Newly graduated medical students will have to first receive two years of training in a major hospital, rotating time in different departments, before they can work as a general practitioner (GP) at a community clinic, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

The recently launched pilot program provides standardized GP training at Beijing Haidian Hospital and 10 other major hospitals in Beijing.

Officials with Beijing Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning said the major reason most people don't go to community clinics is because they don't trust the skills and experience of the doctors there, so this training program is designed to help improve the medical system at the local level.
