A panda spotted wandering the streets of Wenchuan county, Sichuan Province around midnight on Friday may have returned to the wild, news portal chinanews.com reported.

A local park security guard in Yingxiu township, surnamed Wu, first spotted the panda walking on a street outside the park gate while reviewing surveillance video, newspaper West China City Daily reported on Friday.

The footage showed the adult panda attempting to access the park from the gate before it crossed the road and entered the area.

Wu added that the panda crossed the road using the zebra crossing.

Experts from the nearby Wolong National Natural Reserve noted that the panda might have descended from the nearby snow-capped mountains to look for food.

The video is the first image of a wild panda walking on the county's streets, which suggests that their habitat has expanded, experts noted.

As there have been no follow-up sightings, experts believe the panda has already returned to the mountains, chinanews.com reported.
