A symposium was held Wednesday in Beijing to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of late Uygur leader Seypidin Azizi.

Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended the symposium.

Seypidin Azizi, born in 1915, was an alternate member of the Political Bureau of the 10th and 11th Communist Party of China Central Committee, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th National People's Congress (NPC) and vice chairman of the 8th National Committee of the CPPCC.

Li Jianguo, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, spoke highly of his contributions to guarding ethnic unity and stability in border areas and urged the public to learn from the former leader.
