Algeria looks to strengthen ties with Vietnam: parliament speaker

Mohamed-Larbi Ould Khelifa, speaker of the People's National Assembly of Algeria, reiterated his country's policy to enhance cooperative relations with Vietnam during a meeting with Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang here on Sunday.

The Algerian lawmaker is in Vietnam's capital Hanoi to attend the 132nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held from Saturday to next Wednesday.

Algeria wishes to further cooperation with Vietnam in areas which both sides have potentials, as well as hopes to receive more investment from Vietnam, he said.

The Vietnamese president, meanwhile, asked Algeria to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese investors to conduct business and urged both sides to promote bilateral trade.

The president also suggested the two countries increase high- level delegation exchanges, and enhance cooperation between the two legislative bodies, according to Vietnam's state-run news agency.

Vietnam and Algeria established diplomatic relations in 1962.
