Police in Xiamen, Fujian Province investigated a suspicious device resembling a time bomb a woman received in the mail on April Fools' Day that actually turned out to be an alarm clock.

The woman, surnamed Liang, called police in a panic after receiving a parcel containing the novelty timepiece, Strait Herald reported on Thursday.

The alarm clock, which came in packaging that read "defuse a bomb" in English, included an LED digital display and loose wires attached to what appeared to be bound sticks of dynamite.

Police traced the package delivery number to an online vendor in Guangdong Province, who explained that "someone" had ordered the item a few days ago, according to the report.

Officers said that the package was likely sent by a friend as an April's Fools' Day prank.
