Tibet tourism up

Overseas tourists traveling to Nyingchi, Tibet Autonomous Region has increased 30 percent in 2014 to 13,295 people when compared to 2013, local authorities told the Global Times Friday.

In 2013 the prefecture has seen 10,190 overseas tourists from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and other regions and countries. From January to March in 2015, Nyingchi has seen 334 overseas tourists.

To enter Tibet, foreign travelers not only have to get a Chinese tourism visa but also a permit from the Tibetan tourism department. Entering Nyingchi requires another permit from the local security bureau.
