The Guinean government on Monday appealed to political actors to "unconditionally return to the negotiation table" following protests that were characterised by clashes between protesters and security forces.

In a statement released on Monday evening, Government Spokesman Albert Damantang Camara said the protests which turned violent in most parts of the capital, had left 10 people injured, six of them with gun shot wounds.

Camara also revealed that eight people had been arrested in Matoto, Matam and Kaloum communes in the country's capital.

The government spokesman affirmed that the situation in Conakry had been brought under control by the security forces.

On the other hand, the opposition has called on its supporters to continue with the protests on Tuesday until all their demands regarding improvement of security in the capital are met.

In a statement released late on Monday evening, the opposition claimed that 30 people had been injured in the clashes, seven of them by gun shots and one of them was in a critical condition.
