Unemployment in Taiwan moved up slightly to 3.72 percent in March but still remained at the lowest level for the month in almost 15 years, the island's statistics agency said Wednesday.

The rate was 0.03 percentage points higher than that seen in February when the annual unemployment figure headed downward for six straight months, according to the statistics agency.

The unemployment rate for the January-March period stood at 3.71 percent, its lowest level for the same period in almost 14 years.

New jobs in March were mainly created by the services and industrial sectors, which added 93,000 and 34,000 new jobs, for the month.

The agency said many employees tend to quit their jobs following the Lunar New Year holiday to look for new employers, thus driving up the jobless rate slightly in March.
