Slovak foreign ministry has managed to make contact with 53 out of 75 Slovaks in Nepal following the devastating earthquake on Saturday, ministry spokesman Peter Susko said on Monday.

"One Slovak citizen is currently in hospital with an unspecified fracture, while the others are all safe and well," Susko said.

The spokesman said some Slovaks needed to obtain replacement travel documents because they left their passports at their hotels when escaping during the earthquake.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake with an epicentre to the west of Kathmandu was the worst disaster of its kind in the Himalayan country in the past 80 years.

The total number of fatalities has risen to more than 3,200, while another 6,538 people have suffered injuries, said the Nepalese police on Monday.
