Kathmanthu starts to collect garbage in capital

Six days after a massive earthquake jolted Nepal, solid waste of metropolis has been finally collected on Thursday.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) office has collected garbage from the valley to dump it in its regular landfill site at Sisdol, located in Nuwakot district.

"Around 200 tons of garbage has been collected today. Waste collection will continue today onwards,"officials at Environment Management Division of KMC told Xinhua over phone.

KMC has also decided to use 12,000 liter of phenol for the sanitation purpose in Kathmandu.

With the piling up of mount of garbage in streets and open spaces, there are fears of different epidemic and health hazards in the capital city with around 4 million populations.

Several hundred thousand people have already returned to their hometowns and villages over such concerns.

A total of 350 metric tons of waste is generated daily in normal days in the capital. Kathmandu has only a single dumpsite site in its outskirts located at Nuwakot district.
