A young woman in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province is demanding compensation over claims she "lost her virginity" during a pelvic exam, Yangtze Evening Post reported Sunday.

The woman surnamed Wang, 22, filed a police report Friday saying her doctor broke her hymen during a premarital gynecology exam.

An initial, undisclosed settlement was reached following police mediation, but further negotiations are still underway.

Wang had the premarital check-up as part of a marriage application process that requires couples in the province to undergo a health exam.

Wang said she experienced a sharp pain, but her doctor told her to "relax." Soon afterwards she noticed blood.

An exam at another hospital confirmed her suspicions that her hymen had been broken.

Wang, who describes herself as a "very traditional woman," said she had been saving herself for her wedding night.
