To celebrate Argentina's National Day, the Consulate General of Argentina in Shanghai organized a reception for the Argentine community and its local business partners.

"It has been 43 years since Argentina and China established diplomatic rela¬tions. The ties between the two countries in politics, commerce, and culture are growing stronger year by year," Eduardo Martire, Con¬sul General of Argentina in Shanghai (pictured top left) said at the event.

Martire believes that the biggest achievement in their bilateral relations is that the two cultures have gained more knowledge of each other.

At the festive event, held at Obelisco Restaurant on Monday, Argentine profes¬sors danced with Chinese students for a performance of the famous Argentine dance Tango. Prior to the evening, the dancers practiced their routines at Tango Go and Tango Bang, two schools in Shanghai that teach Tango.

Primer gobierno pa¬trio, known as Argentina's national day, commemorates the May Revolution and the creation of the South American nation's first patriotic government on May 25, 1810.

Latest data shows that the number of Chinese immi¬grants living in Argentina has reached 120,000, while the number of registered Argentine expats in Shang¬hai and the surrounding Yangtze River Delta region is currently 250.
