Chinese Young Pioneers to hold national congress

The Chinese Young Pioneers (CYP), a national organization for Chinese children, will hold its quinquennial congress from June 1 to 2, the CYP announced on Saturday.

More than 800 children and adult delegates will attend the CYP's seventh national congress in Beijing, the CYP said in a statement.

The young delegates will represent different ethnic groups, children from migratory workers families, left-behind children, while the adult delegates will represent CYP instructors, school headmasters, educational authorities, scholars and social organizations, it said.

The congress has been approved by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, according to the statement.

First founded in 1949 and led by the CPC, the CYP is a national mass organization for Chinese children aged 6 to 14 years, most of whom are primary or secondary school students.
