A press conference for a series of activities for the upcoming Eco Forum Global Annual Conference Guiyang 2015 took place at Beijing Jintai Art Museum in Chaoyang district on June 18. The museum curator, Yuan Xikun, and the Deputy Director of the Forestry Department of Guizhou Province Li Ping were in attendance.

The Eco Forum Global Annual Conference Guiyang 2015 will be held in Guiyang, Guizhou Province from June 26 to 28. Organized by the State Forestry Administration of China, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and World Wildlife Fund, the conference is the only international conference in the ecological civilization sector in China that is approved by the State Council. It has been an annual event in Guiyang since 2013.

This international conference focuses on eco-friendliness and sustainable development, drawing the participation of thousands of people from around the globe to discuss a greener future of China and the world.

During the conference, government officials and experts will conduct in-depth discussions about five different ecological and sustainable development topics.

At the press conference, it was revealed that the non-profit organization International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Forestry Department of Chishui in Guizhou Province will sign a cooperative agreement concerning developing fertile land for harvesting bamboo in Chishui. This new agreement is based on the initiative of improving the local ecological environment, tackling water and soil erosion issues.

Li announced that they will also launch a "time capsule" activity during the conference. The capsule containing items that represent the five elements - gold, wood, water, fire and earth - along with 100 people's ecological dreams will be sealed during the conference. This capsula will remain so for 50 years.

"Half a century is a long period of time to everyone of us, but for the Earth, it's just the blink of an eye," Li said.

The time capsule's purpose is to symbolize the idea that the Earth is not just inherited from ancestors, but also lent from the people's descendants.

"Preserving the earth is a passing mission and a constant responsibility for all of us," she said.
