China is reviewing a cyber security law that demands the State Council establish a monitoring network for Internet security breaches.

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) started reviewing a draft bill for the cyber security law on Wednesday.

According to the Xinhua News Agency, the draft bill requires the reinforced protection of crucial information technology infrastructure. The bill also calls for a strengthened crackdown on the leaking and misuse of personal information.

Lang Sheng, deputy director of the Commission for Legislative Affairs of the NPC Standing Committee, said the bill was based on the concept that cyber security is key to China's national security and that Internet sovereignty is an extension of national sovereignty.
