A woman seen on a Chinese online social media platform setting a dog on fire has been identified, netizens said.

The woman was seen in the video on Sina Weibo spraying flames with a welding gun on a dog, which was twisting on the ground. The dog's shrieks could clearly be heard on the video, while the woman smirked proudly at the camera.

A cyber manhunt has allegedly yielded the personal information of the woman, including her ID number, home addresses and phone number. She is allegedly a nurse in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. However, the true identity of the woman remains unconfirmed as of press time.

China doesn't have a law against animal brutality. Legal experts proposed a draft law against animal brutality in 2010, which includes penalties and preventing such brutality and eating dog or cat meat.
